A Farmington man, Stephen York, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after a reported stabbing at a motel, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant. The incident was reported April 12, 2026, and the case was filed April 13 in Farmington Magistrate Court.

Incident at motel parking area
According to the affidavit, officers were dispatched at about 7:03 p.m. to a reported stabbing at the Encore Motel on East Main Street in Farmington. An officer reported observing a man holding a towel over his stomach who had a cut on the left side of his abdomen.
Witness accounts of stabbing
According to the affidavit, Stephen York is accused of approaching the man and striking him in the stomach area, with multiple witnesses stating he then walked away. One witness reported seeing a man reach out and stab the victim from about 25 feet away. Another witness stated the suspect approached, made contact with the victim’s stomach, and then left the area on foot.
Additional witnesses told officers they saw the suspect holding what was described as a rusty knife and attempting to conceal it before leaving the scene, the affidavit states.
Victim statement and medical evaluation
The victim told an officer at the hospital that he had been speaking with others in the parking area when a man from room 107 approached him, stabbed him in the stomach, and ran away, according to the affidavit.
A doctor who examined the injury stated the wound had broken the skin and was approximately one-half inch deep. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening but required further medical evaluation, the affidavit states.
Suspect not located at time of report
According to the affidavit, officers were unable to locate the suspect after searching the area. Investigators noted they did not have a working phone number to contact him.
