A Farmington woman has been charged after deputies alleged she injured a man during a domestic disturbance at a residence in the Farmington area, according to a statement of probable cause filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
Edith Jane Peshlakai, 63, was arrested May 8 in connection with the incident, court records state.
According to the criminal complaint, San Juan County deputies were dispatched shortly before 11:30 p.m. to a residence in the Farmington area regarding a reported domestic disturbance.
Deputy Garrett Dickens wrote in the probable cause statement that a man identified as Raymond Smith told deputies Peshlakai became upset after learning he had been communicating with other women on his phone.
According to the affidavit, Smith told deputies Peshlakai grabbed a metal meat tenderizer and attempted to damage his phone. The complaint alleges that when she could not obtain the phone, she swung the object at him during the altercation, according to the affidavit.
Deputies reported observing a fresh injury near Smith’s elbow that appeared to still be bleeding when they arrived, according to the affidavit.
According to court records, deputies also documented blood stains inside the residence and collected the kitchen tool into evidence.
According to the affidavit, another deputy later interviewed Peshlakai, who allegedly stated that both she and Smith had been intoxicated and that she used what she described as a kitchen tool while attempting to damage the phone.
CHARGES FILED
Court records indicate Peshlakai faces an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charge.
CASE STATUS
Court records show a magistrate judge found probable cause for the charge on May 9. A preliminary examination hearing is scheduled for May 21 in San Juan County Magistrate Court in Aztec.
Records indicate Peshlakai was ordered held pending entry of a release order following her initial appearance.
Court records did not indicate whether Peshlakai has retained legal counsel.
