Shiprock Man Charged With Aggravated Assault on Health Care Workers at Farmington Park

A Shiprock man has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault after an alleged knife incident involving health care workers at Veterans Memorial Park, 2105 River Road, in Farmington, according to a criminal complaint filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.

Geoffrey Samuel George, 49, is accused in connection with the April 29, 2026 incident. All charges are allegations based on court records, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

According to a statement of probable cause, a Farmington police officer was dispatched to the park after a report that an individual had allegedly pulled a knife on outreach workers. The workers, identified as part of an assistance response unit, told police they had been interacting with a man later identified as George.

The workers were described in court records as part of an assistance response unit affiliated with a hospital and the Farmington Fire Department.

According to the affidavit, the workers approached George, who was reportedly lying near a walkway, and offered assistance, including a ride to a sobering center. He allegedly refused to leave the area and remained seated, and the workers continued attempting to persuade him to leave the area, according to court records. Police allege that during these interactions, George reached into his jacket, produced a folding knife with a silver blade and handle, pointed it toward the workers, and told them to back away using explicit language, according to the affidavit.

According to the complaint, officers arrived and observed George matching the description provided. Police reported that he complied with commands and was taken into custody without further incident.

According to court records, three separate workers provided similar accounts, each alleging that George pointed a knife at them while they were performing their duties. The knife was later recovered and entered into evidence.
