Farmington Woman Charged After Shooting Investigation Leads To Drug Trafficking Allegations

FARMINGTON — A Farmington woman has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, trafficking methamphetamine by possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia following a reported shooting investigation at a Bluebell Court residence, according to an arrest affidavit filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.

Amy Angelina Oros, 37, was charged in connection with the May 28 investigation, according to court records.

All charges are allegations based on court records, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

According to the arrest affidavit, Farmington police were dispatched at approximately 7:03 a.m. May 28 to a residence in the 100 block of Bluebell Court after a caller reported hearing multiple gunshots.

Court records state the caller reported seeing two men outside the residence and hearing words to the effect of, “I cannot believe you shot at me.” The affidavit further states the caller reported one of the men picked up shell casings near the front door before entering the residence. The caller also reported seeing a white pickup truck towing a trailer leave the area shortly after the shooting.

According to court records, responding officers located multiple spent shell casings near the front porch area and observed fresh bullet defects and projectile damage to an interior living room wall visible through an open front door. Officers also reported finding a broken window near the front entrance and shattered glass on the ground.

The affidavit states officers conducted a high-risk callout because of concerns armed individuals could still be inside the residence. During the callout, Oros exited the residence and reportedly told officers no one else was inside the home. Court records state she declined to provide additional information regarding the reported incident.

According to court records, investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence. During the search, officers reported locating multiple plastic baggies, digital scales, glass pipes, water bongs and other items they believed were associated with narcotics use and distribution.

The affidavit states officers reported finding a white crystal-like substance they believed to be methamphetamine inside the residence and additional suspected methamphetamine inside a white Toyota 4Runner registered to Oros.

According to court records, investigators also reported locating approximately $400 in cash, residue-containing baggies and packaging materials. According to the affidavit, investigators alleged the combination of suspected narcotics, scales, cash and packaging materials was consistent with narcotics trafficking rather than personal use.

During the search, investigators reported recovering multiple spent shell casings from inside and outside the residence, including 9mm and .40-caliber casings. Officers also reported locating a black Harrington & Richardson Model 900 .22-caliber revolver in a bedroom. The affidavit states the revolver was empty when it was found.

According to court records, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office deputies later located a white pickup truck towing a trailer at McGee Park Speedway and identified the driver as Brandon Baker.

According to the affidavit, Baker spontaneously told deputies, “She shot first,” after deputies detained him during the traffic stop.

According to court records, Baker told investigators he had been involved in a relationship with Oros and had gone to the residence to retrieve personal belongings and move a trailer from the property. The affidavit states Baker told investigators the relationship had recently deteriorated.

The affidavit states Baker told investigators he was checking the trailer’s tires when he heard gunshots. Baker alleged he then saw Oros standing near the doorway holding a handgun. According to court records, Baker alleged Oros pointed the firearm in his direction and yelled at him before firing multiple rounds.

Court records state Baker alleged one round struck his truck, another passed through the windshield and another shattered the driver’s-side window. Investigators reported observing apparent bullet holes and damage to Baker’s vehicle that they alleged was consistent with his account.
