FARMINGTON โ A Farmington man has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after prosecutors alleged he stabbed his stepfather during an incident that allegedly caused serious injuries and led to multiple surgeries, according to court records filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
Malik Antonio, 28, was charged in connection with the May 2 incident in case M-47-FR-2026-00256. Court records identify the alleged victim as Antonioโs stepfather.
All charges are allegations based on court records, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
According to the criminal complaint, Antonio is accused of unlawfully touching or applying force to the alleged victim with a knife and with intent to injure the alleged victim.
An expedited motion for pretrial detention filed by prosecutors alleges Antonio stabbed his stepfather multiple times in the abdominal area during what prosecutors described as an unprovoked attack. Prosecutors alleged the victim suffered a major liver laceration and required three liters of blood upon arriving at the hospital.
The detention motion further alleges the victim underwent three surgeries following the incident. Prosecutors alleged Antonio fled after the stabbing and argued in the motion that this showed an attempt to evade law enforcement.
Court records state prosecutors requested Antonio remain in custody pending trial, arguing no release conditions would reasonably protect the safety of others or the community.
The detention motion also states Antonio has prior convictions for false imprisonment in a 2022 case and battery and disorderly conduct in a 2019 case. Prosecutors referenced the convictions in support of their request for pretrial detention.
