Sex Offender Registration Check at Dealership Leads to Felony Charges in San Juan County

A Farmington man has been charged with forgery and failure to register as a sex offender after an employment compliance check, according to a statement of probable cause filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court. The alleged violations stem from an April 1, 2026 compliance check.

The case was filed April 8, 2026, in Aztec Magistrate Court.

Employment compliance check at dealership

According to the affidavit, Skyler Tsosie was subject to sex offender registration requirements, including notifying an employer in writing of his status. A deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office conducted an employment compliance check at Webb Toyota in Farmington on April 1, 2026.

The deputy reviewed an employment form that indicated the defendant had disclosed his status. The form was signed in February 2025, according to court records.

Signature dispute reported

According to the affidavit, the manager listed on the form told the deputy he was not working at that location at the time the document was signed. The manager later reviewed the signature and told the deputy it was not his.

The affidavit alleges the signature was not the manager’s and had been falsified. The manager provided a comparison signature and stated the signature on the form did not match his, according to court records.

Alleged failure to disclose status

Investigators reported that the defendant did not disclose he was on probation when registering and did not notify his employer in writing as required. Court records state the defendant was required to disclose this information within 10 days.

The affidavit also states the defendant had prior convictions related to failure to register as a sex offender and was required to register regularly under state law.

Probation and registration history

According to the affidavit, the defendant was placed on probation in April 2024 and had prior charges related to failure to register. Records indicate he last registered in January 2026 and acknowledged his reporting requirements.
