Farmington Man Charged Following Skyhawk Way Crash That Damaged Home

A Farmington man has been charged with aggravated DWI and multiple property damage offenses after a truck allegedly crashed into a residence on Skyhawk Way, according to a criminal complaint filed in Farmington Magistrate Court.

Myron Begaye Johnson, 34, was charged following the May 4 incident involving a black GMC truck that police allege struck a home in the 4800 block of Skyhawk Way.

All charges are allegations based on court records, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

According to the statement of probable cause, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:17 p.m. after a reporting party advised that a vehicle had crashed into a residence and the driver appeared unconscious.

Officer Thomas Strange wrote that when he arrived, he observed the truck partially lodged into the residence while the rear tires continued spinning and throwing debris and gravel into the air. Court records state fire personnel used a ballistic shield while approaching the still-spinning vehicle because debris was reportedly being thrown from the rear tires.

The affidavit states Farmington Fire Department personnel removed Johnson from the vehicle and placed the truck in park. According to court records, officers reported locating alcoholic beverage containers inside and near the vehicle.

Court records state Johnson was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where officers reported smelling an odor of alcohol while he received medical treatment. According to the complaint, a judge later approved a warrant for a blood draw.

Investigators reported reviewing surveillance footage that allegedly showed the truck traveling through neighborhood streets and across sidewalks and yards before striking the residence at 4840 Skyhawk Way.

Witnesses told police they heard loud noises and observed debris and smoke in the area before the truck struck the home, according to the affidavit.

Police allege the crash caused significant structural damage to the residence, including damage to a support pillar, windows, wall and portions of the interior. The homeowner estimated the damage at approximately $50,000, according to court records.

Additional court records show Johnson is scheduled for a preliminary examination at 8:30 a.m. May 13 before Judge Erich F. Cole in Farmington Magistrate Court.
