FARMINGTON — A Farmington man has been charged with multiple offenses involving alleged sexual contact with minors following an investigation that began in January, according to an arrest warrant filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
Nicholas Finstad, 43, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the second degree involving a child under 13 and one count of enticement of a child, according to court records.
All charges are allegations based on court records, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation began Jan. 8 after the father of two boys contacted Farmington police to report concerns involving a family acquaintance identified as Finstad, the affidavit states. Court records indicate one juvenile disclosed incidents that allegedly occurred during visits to Finstad’s residence during the summer of 2025.
Investigators later conducted forensic interviews with both juveniles at a child advocacy center, according to the affidavit. Court records state one juvenile initially reported feeling uncomfortable during visits to the residence before later providing additional allegations during a follow-up forensic interview.
Court records state the juveniles regularly visited the residence and knew Finstad through family connections. The affidavit alleges the visits involved activities such as swimming and playing video games.
Investigators alleged one juvenile reported inappropriate interactions during visits to the residence, while a second juvenile later disclosed additional allegations during a separate forensic interview.
The affidavit alleges one juvenile disclosed age-inappropriate sexual discussions and instruction during the second forensic interview. Additional details were withheld because the case involves minors.
Investigators also reviewed text-message communications between Finstad and the juveniles’ family, according to court records. The affidavit states police later contacted Finstad regarding an interview, but an attorney informed investigators he would not participate and had obtained legal representation.
Investigators alleged the statements provided during the forensic interviews were consistent with prior disclosures and supported the request for an arrest warrant.
