Aztec Man Charged With Felony Damage to Patrol Unit After Traffic Stop

An Aztec man has been charged with a felony after police allege he damaged a patrol unit following a traffic stop in Aztec.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Aztec Magistrate Court, Jarell T. Robinson, 31, is charged with criminal damage to property over $1,000, a fourth-degree felony.

Court records state the incident began April 14, 2026, when officers were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance at the Dollar General near West Aztec Boulevard. Officers were advised a male had left the area in a blue Ford Mustang.

According to the complaint, an officer located the vehicle near Aztec Boulevard and Lightplant Road and attempted to initiate a stop. Officers reported the vehicle did not stop and continued eastbound on West Chaco Street before turning south on South Park Avenue.

Police allege the vehicle entered the parking lot of the VFW on South Park Avenue, traveled through the lot, and continued through an alley before stopping near West Zia Street.

According to the complaint, officers conducted a felony stop and detained Robinson. Officers reported he did not comply with commands and was taken into custody after being placed in a patrol unit.

Officers reported Robinson was advised of his rights and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. According to the complaint, Robinson began kicking the interior door of the unit after being warned to stop.

Police allege the damage included a bent interior partition, a damaged rear camera, and damage to an air vent on the roof of the vehicle. Officers reported observing an electronic component on the floorboard consistent with damage caused during the incident.

Court records state the estimated damage exceeded $1,000.

According to the complaint, Robinson was later transported to jail. A court log indicates he was subsequently taken by EMS to San Juan Regional Medical Center and admitted to the intensive care unit.
