Strangulation Charge Filed in Farmington After Domestic Violence Incident, Records Show

A Farmington man is facing a felony charge of aggravated battery against a household member involving strangulation or suffocation, according to court records filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.

The charge stems from a Feb. 13, 2026 incident investigated by the Farmington Police Department. A preliminary examination has been scheduled in the case.

What Court Records Allege

According to an affidavit for arrest warrant filed by Officer Dylan Goodluck, police were dispatched shortly after 10:40 a.m. on Feb. 13 to a residence in Farmington after a neighbor reported a possible domestic disturbance. The caller told dispatch that a woman had come to their home stating her husband had tried to choke her and had threatened her with a knife, the affidavit states.

The affidavit states that when officers arrived in the area, they contacted the reporting neighbor and then made contact with the woman involved. The woman told officers that her husband had attacked and choked her, and that she ran to a neighbor’s home for assistance.

Statements to Law Enforcement

According to the affidavit, the woman told police that earlier that morning she had been picked up by her husband and that the two argued while in a vehicle. She told officers she attempted to exit the vehicle multiple times but was prevented from doing so, the affidavit states.

The woman reported that once they returned to the residence, the argument continued inside the home. She told officers she was struck in the face and head area and that at one point she was held down on a bed and had a pillow placed over her face, according to the affidavit. She further reported that she experienced difficulty breathing during part of the incident.

The affidavit states that after leaving the residence, she sought help from neighbors, who contacted law enforcement.

Physical Evidence and Photographs

According to court records, the woman declined medical attention but reported pain in her neck, shoulder and jaw. The affidavit documents that the responding officer observed visible injuries, including scratches and red marks on her arms, neck, back and collarbone area.

The affidavit also states that officers reviewed exterior surveillance footage from a neighboring residence. The footage, according to the affidavit, showed the woman running from the residence toward a neighbor’s home, with a male individual appearing at the front door before returning inside.

In addition, the affidavit states that text messages and photographs were provided to law enforcement by a third party. The officer documented reviewing images that showed blood in a bathroom area and a razor blade on the ground, according to the affidavit.
