Six Child Abuse Counts Filed After Bloomfield Crash Investigation

Six counts of child abuse and multiple DWI-related charges were filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court following a March 1 single-vehicle crash in Bloomfield, according to court filings.

Separate cases were opened against two adults after officers responded to a reported crash involving a vehicle that struck a guardrail near East Broadway Boulevard and Kirby Street.

What Court Records Allege

Crash Reported at Broadway and Kirby

According to Statements of Probable Cause filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court, a Bloomfield police officer was dispatched at approximately 7:49 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash at East Broadway Boulevard and Kirby Street. Dispatch advised that a female driver and a male passenger were still inside the vehicle and that it had crashed into a guardrail.

Upon arrival, the vehicle was described as facing northbound across the outside lane of westbound traffic. The front bumper had struck a guardrail on the outside of the sidewalk, and the front tires were reported to be on top of the sidewalk. Damage was also observed at the rear driver-side corner of the vehicle. No skid marks, yaw marks, fluid stains, or vehicle parts were documented on the roadway, according to the affidavits.

Driver Investigation and DWI Allegations

The probable cause statement identifies the driver as Anrelina S. Ellison. The officer reported observing bloodshot, watery eyes and detecting a heavy odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was described as highly emotional and crying about her children.

The affidavit states Ellison had to be helped out of the vehicle and sat on the curb as fire personnel arrived. The officer wrote that she slurred her speech and showed signs of unsteady balance. After being read the New Mexico Implied Consent Advisory, she declined to submit to a breath test, which was documented as a refusal.

Court filings show Ellison was charged with Aggravated DWI (refusal), Roadways Laned for Traffic, Open Container, Resisting, Concealing, and three counts of Child Abuse (placed in a dangerous situation).

The case follows another recent Bloomfield matter, 3-year-old injuries detailed in child abuse battery case in Bloomfield, also filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.

Passenger Arrest and Child Abuse Charges

The male passenger was identified in court records as Kyle M. Tiger. The officer reported observing signs of intoxication, including bloodshot, watery eyes and an odor of alcoholic beverage. Inside the vehicle, officers documented multiple empty alcohol containers, including 187-milliliter containers and empty liquor bottles.

According to the filing, Tiger was arrested for Open Container. Court records show he was also charged with three counts of Child Abuse (placed in a dangerous situation).

Children Located at Residence

After clearing the crash scene, officers responded to the residence listed on the driver’s license and vehicle registration. According to the probable cause statement, three children were located alone and unattended by an adult.

The children were identified by name and age in court documents; however, San Juan Pulse does not publish the names of minors. The affidavit states the children appeared in good health with no visible injuries but were unsupervised at the time officers arrived.

A relative was contacted and responded to take custody of the children, according to the report.

Notices of Preliminary Examination were filed March 2 in San Juan County Magistrate Court in Aztec under case numbers M-147-FR-2026-00087 and M-147-FR-2026-00088.
