Seven Equipment Embezzlement Counts and Vehicle Charge Filed in San Juan County Case

A man has been charged with multiple embezzlement counts after investigators said rental equipment payments were diverted through a personal PayPal account in San Juan County, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant filed in magistrate court.

The criminal complaint and affidavit were filed March 12, 2026, in San Juan County Magistrate Court following an investigation by the Bloomfield Police Department.

Equipment rental payments reviewed by investigators

According to court records, Nathan Wilkinson worked for Backroads Energy Services LLC, a company that rents equipment to oilfield businesses. The reporting party told investigators the defendant had been renting company equipment to Pureline and receiving payment personally.

The reporting party provided invoices and a list of transactions from PayPal. The documents showed multiple payments that investigators said appeared connected to equipment rentals.

The affidavit states investigators reviewed seven invoices with dates ranging from June 14, 2023, to March 26, 2024. The invoices listed payments for equipment rental that investigators said corresponded to PayPal transaction records.

PayPal records and financial transactions

According to the affidavit, a search warrant was obtained for PayPal records linked to the defendant. The records showed transactions beginning June 14, 2023.

The records listed payments totaling several transactions that investigators said were consistent with invoices connected to equipment rentals. Investigators reported that funds were transferred from PayPal and later deposited into a personal bank account.

The affidavit states investigators also obtained records from two financial institutions showing deposits that corresponded to PayPal withdrawals. Transaction dates and amounts were described as consistent with the PayPal records obtained during the investigation.

Vehicle ownership dispute

The affidavit states the reporting party also raised concerns about a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado that had been purchased for company use. According to investigators, the vehicle was later listed with the defendant as an owner on a Colorado title document.

The reporting party told investigators the vehicle had been purchased with company approval and intended for company use. Investigators said documents including a duplicate title application, insurance records and vehicle service information listed the defendant in connection with the vehicle.

According to the affidavit, investigators concluded the vehicle was being used and maintained even though the reporting party said it had been described as not working.

Investigative records and documentation

The affidavit states investigators obtained PayPal records, bank records, and vehicle documentation during the investigation. These records included PayPal transaction histories, bank deposits, and vehicle title documentation.

Investigators also reviewed invoices, financial transaction logs and other documents provided by the reporting party. The affidavit states the information obtained from these records was consistent with the financial activity described in the investigation.
