SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. — An arrest warrant has been issued for Jacob Michael Hanna, a Farmington man named in a newly filed criminal case alleging sexual offenses involving a minor, according to court records filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
The warrant was approved on Jan. 29, 2026, after a judge reviewed a sworn affidavit submitted by investigators. Court records indicate Hanna had not been taken into custody as of publication.
All allegations described below are based on court filings. Hanna is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
What investigators allege
According to the affidavit for arrest warrant, investigators allege the incident occurred in November 2025 in San Juan County and involved a teenage victim who was known to Hanna.
Court records state the alleged encounter took place inside a vehicle and that the victim had ingested marijuana that investigators allege was provided by Hanna. The affidavit notes investigators believe the substance may have impaired the victim’s ability to clearly perceive and respond during the encounter.
The affidavit alleges the interaction lasted approximately 30 minutes and that sexual contact occurred while the victim was not able to freely resist. Investigators noted the vehicle remained parked throughout the alleged incident.
Medical disclosure and investigation
According to court filings, the allegations were reported to law enforcement after the victim later sought medical care weeks after the alleged incident.
Due to the passage of time between the alleged incident and the report, investigators noted that certain forensic examinations were no longer feasible. However, interviews, medical records, and corroborating statements were reviewed as part of the probable cause determination.
Prior case referenced in court records
Court documents also reference a separate, unrelated criminal case filed against Hanna in 2022 involving a different minor.
That case was later dismissed through a nolle prosequi filing in 2025, meaning prosecutors elected not to proceed at that time. The dismissal does not constitute a conviction and carries no finding of guilt.
Court records indicate the earlier matter is referenced in the current filings for background purposes only.
Charges sought
Based on the affidavit, prosecutors are seeking the following charges:
- Criminal sexual penetration of a minor (ages 13–18)
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
The arrest warrant authorizes law enforcement to take Hanna into custody to answer the charges. No initial court appearance has been scheduled.
Presumption of Innocence
All charges are allegations only. Jacob Michael Hanna is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
