Gunpoint Kidnapping and Trunk Confinement Charges Filed in Farmington

Kidnapping and firearm-related felony charges have been filed in Farmington Magistrate Court following a September 2025 investigation by the Farmington Police Department, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant. The defendant, identified in court records as 18-year-old Kobe Diyo Nez, is accused of taking part in an incident in which a man was beaten and forced into the trunk of a vehicle.

The affidavit further states Nez was a prohibited possessor of a firearm at the time of the alleged incident.

What Court Records Allege

Initial Report and Alleged Assault

According to the affidavit, officers responded during the early morning hours of Sept. 17, 2025, after the victim arrived at the Farmington Police Department and reported he had been attacked and confined inside the trunk of a bluish-gray Chrysler 200.

The document states the victim told officers he had been beaten, pistol-whipped, stripped of his clothing and robbed of personal belongings, including approximately $100 and the keys to his mother’s black 2019 GMC Sierra bearing a New Mexico license plate. He reported that one of the men threatened him with a firearm and forced him into the trunk of the Chrysler.

According to the affidavit, the victim said he believed he was being transported to a remote area. He told officers he managed to open the trunk using an interior latch when the vehicle slowed near Municipal Drive and ran to the police station lobby to call 911.

Two Vehicles Identified in Investigation

The affidavit distinguishes between two vehicles connected to the incident. The bluish-gray Chrysler 200, which investigators later determined had been reported stolen in a separate case, was identified as the vehicle used to transport the victim in the trunk.

The victim’s mother’s black 2019 GMC Sierra was also taken during the incident, according to the affidavit. Law enforcement later located the GMC in Shiprock and executed a search warrant on the vehicle. The affidavit states officers recovered the victim’s iPhone and other items from the GMC. A separate search warrant executed at a Farmington residence resulted in the recovery of the GMC’s keys inside a dresser.

Statements and Investigation

Investigators conducted multiple interviews during the investigation, according to the affidavit. One individual told detectives he witnessed the victim being assaulted and forced into the trunk of the Chrysler. Another individual admitted to striking the victim and being present during the events.

The affidavit states Kobe Diyo Nez admitted to being handed a pistol and using it to force the victim into the trunk of the Chrysler 200. The document alleges Nez ordered the victim into the trunk while holding the firearm before the vehicle drove away.

The affidavit also references a social media post observed during the investigation. According to the document, the caption attached to the image included the quoted phrase: “@loc_pheez you b!tch nigga come get yo whip back (and three emojis).”

Arrest and Warrants

According to the affidavit, when Detective E. Arreola contacted Nez on Oct. 9, 2025, a records check showed two active arrest warrants. The document states one warrant was issued through the Aztec Magistrate Court for failure to appear on traffic offenses, and a second warrant was issued through the Aztec Magistrate Court for robbery and aggravated battery.

The affidavit states Nez agreed to meet at the Farmington Police Detective Division and was taken into custody.
