Court records: Farmington stop leads to felon-in-possession, drug case
FARMINGTON, N.M. — A traffic stop in Farmington late Tuesday ended with felony allegations that a convicted felon had a handgun in a pickup truck and a controlled substance in a backpack, according to a sworn affidavit filed in Farmington Magistrate Court.
Caleb Langlitz, 29, of Aztec, is charged with receipt, transportation or possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance, court records show.
All charges are allegations. Langlitz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Reported reckless driving ends at Big R
According to the affidavit, Farmington police were dispatched at about 8:23 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2026, after a report that an older-model white Dodge pickup was driving recklessly westbound on Main Street near Sullivan Avenue and was last seen pulling into the Big R parking lot at 908 E. Main St.
An officer on scene reported the truck was driving in reverse and “reckless” in the parking lot. Police identified the driver as Langlitz, who officers said appeared highly emotional and was crying. An officer removed a knife from Langlitz during the contact, the affidavit states.
Gun reported on passenger-side floor
During the stop, officers said they observed a handgun on the passenger-side floorboard of the pickup. The affidavit describes it as a semi-automatic pistol that was later collected during a search.
The affidavit states officers learned Langlitz was on probation and parole and that he is a convicted felon, which would make firearm possession unlawful under state law.
K-9 alert and vehicle towed
Police requested a K-9 unit, and the affidavit states the dog alerted on the vehicle for narcotics. The pickup was sealed and towed to an impound lot pending a warrant, according to the report.
Search warrant: .45 handgun and suspected meth described
On Jan. 28, 2026, officers executed a search warrant on the pickup, according to the affidavit. Inside the vehicle, police reported recovering a .45 caliber Kimber Eclipse Ultra II handgun with a magazine containing five rounds. The affidavit also states a round was removed from the chamber.
Police also reported locating a backpack containing drug paraphernalia and a clear bag with a white crystalline substance that later tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine. The affidavit lists the substance as weighing about 4 grams. Officers also documented items including small baggies, cotton balls, and a digital scale with residue, according to the report.
Charges filed
Langlitz is charged in Farmington Magistrate Court with:
- Receipt, transportation or possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon
- Possession of a controlled substance
Court records list the case under M-47-FR-2026-00059.
Presumption of Innocence: The allegations summarized above come from sworn court filings and have not been proven in court.
