Farmington court records allege a driver was traveling between approximately 60 and 75 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone before being stopped and later charged with driving while intoxicated. An infant was reportedly found unsecured in the back seat of the vehicle during the investigation.
The allegations are outlined in a statement of probable cause filed in Farmington Magistrate Court.
What Court Records Allege
Improper Turn and High-Speed Driving
According to the affidavit, a Farmington police sergeant observed a vehicle make an improper right turn near the intersection of Southside River Road and Broadway during the early morning hours of Feb. 19, 2026. The vehicle allegedly entered the inside lane instead of the outside lane.
The officer reported accelerating to catch up to the vehicle and pacing it at approximately 60 to 75 miles per hour in a posted 25 mph zone before activating emergency lights near West Main Street, court records state. In a supplemental report, the sergeant cited a speed of approximately 75 mph.
Infant Allegedly Unsecured in Rear Seat
When officers approached the vehicle, court records allege there was an infant in the back seat. The affidavit states the child was not properly secured in a car seat and that the harness straps were loose.
Officers reported that the chest harness was not buckled and that the bottom buckles of the car seat were not secured, according to the complaint. The driver was subsequently charged with child abuse (placed in a dangerous situation), the affidavit states.
Signs of Intoxication and Field Sobriety Tests
Officers reported detecting a slight odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from the vehicle and the driver’s breath, according to court records. The driver allegedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening.
The affidavit states the driver participated in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand. Officers documented multiple clues of impairment during those tests, according to the complaint.
Breath Test Results
After being transported to the Farmington Police Department, the driver provided breath samples on an Intoxilyzer 9000 machine, court records state. The samples reportedly measured 0.14 and 0.15 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath.
