FARMINGTON, N.M. — Court records allege a Farmington woman struck a household member in the head with a metal flashlight during a domestic incident, prompting deputies to seek a felony arrest warrant.
The allegations are outlined in a sworn affidavit for arrest warrant filed Jan. 7, 2026, in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
All allegations described below are drawn from court filings and law enforcement statements. No conviction has been entered. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
What court records allege
Deputies respond to reported domestic violence call
According to the affidavit, deputies with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched shortly after 1 a.m. to a residence on Road 5500 in Farmington for a reported domestic violence incident.
Upon arrival, deputies learned the reported victim, identified in court records as Jerome Vigil, had already been transported by emergency medical personnel. The suspect, identified as Stephanie Milliano, had reportedly fled the residence before deputies arrived.
Injury and victim statements
Deputies later followed up with Vigil at San Juan Regional Medical Center. Court records state Vigil had a laceration to the back of his head that required staples and was described as deep enough to potentially leave a scar.
According to the affidavit, Vigil told deputies the incident began when Milliano wanted to leave the home. He stated that after he said he did not want her to leave, she became upset and struck him on the back of the head with a flashlight.
Weapon description and scene observations
The affidavit describes the flashlight as a short, heavy metal flashlight. Vigil reportedly demonstrated the approximate size for deputies and stated it was significantly heavy due to its construction.
Deputies documented blood on the interior walls of the residence, including blood streaks and handprints, which were photographed as part of the investigation.
The flashlight was not located. Vigil told deputies he believed Milliano may have taken it with her when she left the residence.
Charge sought
Felony aggravated battery allegation
Based on the investigation, deputies requested an arrest warrant charging Milliano with aggravated battery against a household member (deadly weapon), a felony offense under New Mexico law.
The affidavit states deputies relied on the victim’s statements, observed injuries, and scene evidence in determining probable cause.
Case status
The affidavit was submitted for judicial review. Court records list the case as pending in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
Presumption of innocence:
All charges are allegations. Stephanie Milliano is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
