Update: Farmington Man Pleads Guilty in Maverik DWI Stop With Children

A Farmington man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after police say a swerving vehicle pulled into the Maverik gas station on East Main Street, prompting an early morning response and field sobriety testing.

Isaiah Mike Morgan, 19, was arrested following the Feb. 20, 2026 incident in Farmington, according to a Statement of Probable Cause filed in San Juan County.

The case follows a separate Farmington DWI traffic stop involving an unsecured infant, where child abuse charges were also filed in Magistrate Court, according to court records.

What Court Records Allege

According to the statement, at approximately 3:30 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the Maverik gas station at 4197 E. Main St. after an anonymous caller reported a black Ford truck traveling eastbound while “swerving” and “driving crazy.” The caller advised the vehicle pulled into the parking lot.

Police allege officers located a 2012 black Ford truck with a temporary New Mexico registration matching the description. The reporting officer stated Morgan had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and a faint odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from his breath.

According to the complaint, Morgan told officers he had consumed “one beer” approximately one to two hours before driving.

Field Sobriety Testing

Officers administered standardized field sobriety tests, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests, according to the filing.

During the HGN test, police reported observing four clues, including lack of smooth pursuit and distinct nystagmus at maximum deviation in both eyes.

During the Walk and Turn test, officers documented two clues, alleging Morgan stopped walking and performed an improper turn.

During the One Leg Stand test, police reported Morgan showed two clues by placing his foot down early and miscounting.

Arrest and Vehicle Investigation

According to the complaint, Morgan was placed under arrest for DWI. During a search incident to arrest, officers reported locating two sealed 50-milliliter containers of Yukon Jack whiskey in his jacket pockets.

The filing states two juveniles were seated in the back of the truck, and an adult female identified as Morgan’s aunt was in the front passenger seat. Police reported the adult passenger agreed to perform an eye test and showed no signs of intoxication.

According to the statement, the passenger told officers they had been at Crouch Mesa before driving to the gas station. The reporting party told police she observed the truck swerving into both eastbound lanes before pulling into the parking lot.

Breath Test Results

Police transported Morgan to the Farmington Police Department, where he provided two breath samples using an Intoxilyzer 9000, according to the complaint.

The first sample measured between 0.12 and 0.13 BrAC, and the second sample measured 0.12 BrAC. Officers reported the testing device was certified and operating properly at the time.

Charges Filed

  • Driving While Intoxicated (First Offense)
  • Two counts of Child Abuse (Placed in a Dangerous Situation)

Case Status

Court records show Morgan later entered a guilty plea to Driving While Intoxicated (First Offense) under a plea and disposition agreement filed March 25, 2026, in Farmington Magistrate Court.

According to the judgment, Morgan was sentenced to 90 days in custody with credit for time served and the remaining time suspended, along with 364 days of supervised probation.

The two child abuse charges were dismissed by the prosecution, according to court records.

As part of the sentence, Morgan is required to complete DWI school, obtain an ignition interlock device, complete community service and comply with substance abuse screening and treatment requirements.
