A Farmington man is facing a breaking and entering charge after a male was reported to have gained access to an apartment through a balcony door at a Farmington apartment complex, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
The charge stems from an incident reported in the early morning hours of Feb. 17, 2026, and investigated by the Farmington Police Department. The case was filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court on Feb. 18, 2026.
Initial Report and Officer Response
According to the affidavit submitted by Farmington Police Officer T. Stewart, officers were dispatched at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Feb. 17, 2026, to an apartment complex in the Apache area of Farmington in reference to a breaking and entering. The reporting party stated that a male had climbed onto the balcony of their apartment and entered through the balcony door, the affidavit states. The reporting party further stated that a fiancé was able to remove the male from the home, and that a physical altercation occurred between the fiancé and the intruder, according to the affidavit.
Officer Stewart states in the affidavit that upon arriving at the scene, other officers searched the surrounding area for the suspect while he made contact with the reporting party at the apartment.
Statements from Residents
According to the affidavit, a female resident told Officer Stewart that she had been asleep when she was awakened by a male who had entered through the balcony door connected to her bedroom. She told the officer the male was approximately two feet inside the apartment when she observed him, the affidavit states. She described the male as wearing blue jeans and a hoodie. She stated she woke her fiancé, who then confronted and removed the male from the residence, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit states that the fiancé told Officer Stewart the male had opened the balcony door and was approximately three steps inside the residence when he told the male to leave. The male stated he was allowed to be at the residence, according to the affidavit. The fiancé told officers he pushed the male out and began striking him as the male climbed back down from the balcony, the affidavit states. The fiancé described the male as wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans, and reported that a red jacket found beneath the balcony was believed to belong to the suspect, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit further states the fiancé said the male had tattoos on his head and was believed to be Eric Lacey.
Identification of the Suspect
According to the affidavit, the female resident provided Officer Stewart with a Facebook profile photograph of the individual she identified as the person who broke into the apartment. The officer states he was able to run the name through his Mobile Data Terminal, located the individual’s information in the National Crime Information Center, and confirmed that the photograph in that system matched the photograph provided by the resident, the affidavit states.
The affidavit also states that a neighbor, contacted by Officer Young on scene, reported seeing a male run south from the apartment complex. The neighbor described the male as having long hair and a thin build, according to the affidavit. Officers were unable to locate anyone in the area matching that description, the affidavit states.
