A man has been charged with multiple felony offenses after allegedly attempting to disarm a peace officer and engaging in a physical struggle with deputies in Aztec, according to a criminal complaint. The incident is described as occurring March 11, 2026, in San Juan County.

Deputies with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at a residence, according to a statement of probable cause. The case was later filed in Aztec Magistrate Court.

Response to 911 Call

According to the statement of probable cause, deputies were dispatched to a residence after a report of yelling. When officers arrived, they encountered Blane Boughan inside the home along with family members.

The reporting deputy wrote that the defendant appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and was not complying with requests to calm down or leave the residence. Deputies stated there was no legal basis at that time to remove him from the home.

Interaction With Family Member

While deputies were speaking with individuals inside the residence, court records state the defendant approached a household member in an aggressive manner. A witness told deputies he believed he was about to be struck.

The deputy reported intervening by physically restraining the defendant. During this interaction, the defendant was taken to the ground as deputies attempted to place him in handcuffs.

Struggle With Deputies

According to the statement of probable cause, the defendant resisted efforts to be restrained by kicking, pulling away, and attempting to break free from deputies’ grasp. Deputies reported multiple attempts to gain control while issuing commands for him to place his hands behind his back.

During the struggle, deputies stated the defendant struck one deputy and grabbed at another deputy’s vest near where her firearm was located. The deputy later reported feeling the defendant pulling in the area of her firearm.

Officers wrote that force was used to prevent access to the weapon and to complete the arrest. The defendant was eventually handcuffed and transported without further incident.

Arrest and Booking

After the incident, deputies transported the defendant to the San Juan County Adult Detention Center. A search incident to arrest was conducted, and he was booked on multiple charges.
