Court records allege a confrontation at a Las Vegas residence escalated into threats involving a knife and a firearm, followed by a forced vehicle entry on Feb. 4. Charges were filed in San Miguel County Magistrate Court based on an affidavit for arrest warrant. Investigators reported that an infant was present during part of the incident.
What Court Records Allege
Police Respond to Report Near Residence
According to the affidavit, a New Mexico State Police officer was dispatched shortly before 7:35 p.m. to Las Vegas after communications advised of a female requesting to speak with an officer about an incident in the city limits. The officer was informed that state police had responded earlier to a separate call in Romeroville and that the reporting party was requesting assistance related to a subsequent dispute.
Court records state the officer made contact with state police staff and was escorted to an interview room, where the reporting party provided an account of events. The affidavit notes the reporting party said she had been drinking with a friend earlier in the evening and later returned to a residence in the city.
Knife Allegedly Pulled During Argument at Home
The affidavit alleges that after arriving at the residence, an argument developed involving multiple individuals. Court records state the defendant exited a vehicle and allegedly produced a kitchen knife, threatening the reporting party and demanding property while refusing to let her leave the home.
According to the affidavit, the reporting party said she feared being harmed and attempted to leave. The defendant allegedly continued making statements that the reporting party interpreted as threats, while another individual present allegedly minimized the seriousness of the situation, records state.
Firearm Allegedly Pointed During Confrontation
Court records allege that during the altercation, another adult arrived at the residence and entered the home. The reporting party told officers that a firearm was then produced and pointed at her, prompting her to plead to be allowed to leave, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit states the reporting party described the firearm as a black handgun and said she was unsure whether it was loaded. She told officers the firearm was lowered after a brief period, and she was allowed to move toward an exit before the situation escalated again.
Forced Vehicle Entry and Escape to Gas Station
According to court records, the reporting party said she was later forced into a vehicle by the defendant, who allegedly threatened her with a weapon. The affidavit states the vehicle traveled several blocks before the reporting party was able to switch seats and gain control of the vehicle.
The reporting party told officers she then drove away from the area and went to a nearby gas station, where she contacted law enforcement. The affidavit notes the reporting party said an infant was inside the residence during part of the incident and that she feared for her safety throughout the encounter.
