Multiple credit card theft and fraud charges have been filed in Roswell following a Feb. 13, 2026 investigation, according to a criminal complaint filed in Chaves County Magistrate Court.
The complaint alleges offenses including theft of a credit card, fraudulent use of a credit card under $250, larceny under $250, tampering with evidence, and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
What Court Records Allege
According to the affidavit attached to the criminal complaint, Officer E. Pritchard of the Roswell Police Department was dispatched Feb. 13 to a residence on North Michigan Avenue in reference to a larceny reported to have occurred the previous day.
The affidavit states that a woman reported losing her wallet the night of Feb. 12 at an aquatic center. The following morning, she checked her credit card accounts and noticed several charges had been made.
According to the affidavit, statements from Merrick Bank and Capital One showed charges of approximately $238.20 on each card. The woman contacted the companies and learned items were ordered to a North Michigan Avenue address using a listed email account, the affidavit states.
Investigation and Contact at Residence
The affidavit states the woman went to the North Michigan Avenue address after identifying the email account associated with the purchases. She reported that the purchases were made under a CashApp username that included the defendant’s name and photograph.
According to the affidavit, the defendant told the woman he did not take her cards but acknowledged that the CashApp account was his. The affidavit states he returned the contents of her wallet but did not return two money orders that had been purchased.
When officers arrived at the residence, the affidavit states the defendant entered through a side door. The officer confirmed the defendant’s identity through a booking photograph and noted he had three outstanding warrants at the time, according to the affidavit.
Search Warrant and Evidence
According to the affidavit, officers executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, a receipt was located in a toilet on the west side of the home. The receipt was from an Albertsons store and reflected two money orders totaling $575 — one for $500 and another for $75 — matching the amounts reported missing, the affidavit states.
The affidavit states the victim reported purchasing the money orders from a store on South Main Street, which matched the receipt recovered during the search.
