What Court Records Allege
Initial Report of Shooting and Stabbing
According to the affidavit sworn by Gallup Police Detective Victor Rodriguez, officers were advised on Feb. 7, 2026 of a shooting and stabbing involving multiple victims at the Trade Mart Square parking lot.
The affidavit states the suspects left the area in a blue or black Trailblazer. State Police later stopped a vehicle matching that description near Rocky View Elementary School, and the individuals were taken to the Gallup Police Department for interviews.
One victim was reported to have three stab wounds — one to the right side of the neck below the ear, one to the left arm and one to the chest. Another victim was reported to have a stab wound to the right arm and to the chest. According to the affidavit, one of the victims drove himself to the hospital, and both victims were flown to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, according to the affidavit.
Witness Statements and Video Evidence
The affidavit details multiple witness interviews conducted by investigators. A witness told police he observed a fight between two females in the parking lot, followed by involvement from several male subjects. The witness reported seeing a male retrieve a handgun from a Trailblazer and later hearing a gunshot.
Another witness told investigators he attempted to break up a fight and was stabbed during the altercation. The affidavit states video evidence reviewed by detectives showed two male suspects near each other during the fight and appeared to show one of them providing a firearm to the other, who then cocked the gun. A gunshot could be heard on the video, according to the filing.
Investigators also interviewed a female involved in the altercation, who stated she fired a gun into the air and pointed it toward the crowd before leaving with others, the affidavit states.
Search Warrant and Evidence Seized
According to the affidavit, a search warrant was executed Feb. 9, 2026 on a dark blue Trailblazer bearing a New Mexico license plate. During the search, officers located a handgun in a black backpack on the rear passenger seat floor. The handgun was identified as an American Tactical Titan .45 caliber pistol.
Investigators also reported locating a spent .45-caliber casing and a .45-caliber round in the vehicle. The items were tagged into evidence at the Gallup Police Department, according to the filing.
