Multiple Shots Fired at SUV Alleged in Alamogordo Conspiracy Case Involving Firearm

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Court records allege multiple shots were fired into a sport utility vehicle during a late-night confrontation in Alamogordo, leaving one teenage occupant wounded. Felony conspiracy and related charges were filed in Otero County Magistrate Court, according to a criminal complaint and supporting affidavit. Investigators allege the shooting occurred as the vehicle traveled through a residential trailer park.

What Court Records Allege

Shots Fired as Vehicle Traveled Through Trailer Park

According to the affidavit, officers were dispatched the night of Jan. 23, 2026, after reports of a motor vehicle crash and a possible shooting near the intersection of 10th Street and Cuba Avenue in Alamogordo. Dispatchers later advised officers that one male subject had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was being transported by a bystander to a local hospital.

Investigators learned the injured individual was a 17-year-old male who had been driving an SUV at the time of the shooting, court records state. A second occupant, an older sibling, was seated in the front passenger seat when shots were fired into the vehicle while it was moving through a nearby trailer park.

Damage to Vehicle and Injury to Teen Driver

During an examination of the SUV, officers documented multiple bullet impacts, including at least seven bullet holes in various areas of the vehicle, according to the affidavit. The damage included bullet strikes to the driver’s door, front fender, hood and windshield in the area in front of the driver’s seat.

Court records allege the teenage driver sustained a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. Investigators noted the bullet remained lodged in the victim’s body due to potential medical complications associated with removal.

Witness Statements and Suspect Vehicle Identified

Investigators interviewed the passenger, who told officers the shots were fired from another vehicle that appeared suddenly as they traveled through the trailer park, the affidavit states. The passenger reported communicating with another individual via a messaging application prior to arriving in the area and indicated the suspect vehicle occupants were wearing masks.

Additional witness statements and physical evidence, including spent shell casings and tire impressions, were documented by officers, according to court records. Investigators later identified a green compact vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting based on witness descriptions and traffic camera footage.

Investigation Leads to Alleged Conspiracy

According to the affidavit, investigators tracked the suspect vehicle using traffic camera footage and determined it had been driven by the defendant on the night of the shooting. Officers later located the vehicle and made contact with the defendant, who was taken into custody after questioning.

Court records allege the defendant admitted to driving the vehicle and acknowledged being present when shots were fired by a minor passenger. Investigators further allege the defendant was aware of an ongoing dispute involving the victims and transported the armed minor to and from the scene.

Charges Filed

Prosecutors filed the following charges against the defendant, according to the criminal complaint. All charges are allegations that must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

  • Conspiracy to commit attempted second-degree murder, a felony, with a firearm enhancement, in violation of NMSA 1978, § 30-28-2 and § 30-2-1
  • Contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a fourth-degree felony, in violation of NMSA 1978, § 30-6-3

The allegations are similar to those outlined in a recent San Miguel County kidnapping and deadly assault case, according to court records filed in that matter.

Case Status

The complaint indicates a warrant was requested following a finding of probable cause by a magistrate judge. Information regarding bond, court-appointed counsel, or a future court date was not included in the court filing reviewed for this report.
