Court records show multiple felony charges were filed after law enforcement responded to a reported in-progress residential burglary in Roswell on January 15, 2026.
According to a sworn statement of probable cause, officers documented extensive interior damage, including cut wiring and drywall destruction, with investigators estimating approximately $5,000 in damage inside the home.
The case is pending in Chaves County Magistrate Court.
Police dispatched to reported burglary
According to the affidavit, officers with the Roswell Police Department were dispatched at approximately 1:03 p.m. to a residence in the South Lea Avenue area after a homeowner reported suspicious activity and possible burglary.
Dispatch advised responding officers that the homeowner had driven past the residence and observed activity suggesting someone may have entered the home unlawfully. A pickup truck with a trailer was reportedly seen near the residence.
An officer already on scene had detained one individual before the affiant arrived.
Damage discovered inside the residence
After clearing the residence to confirm no one remained inside, officers conducted a walkthrough and reported the following conditions:
- Interior wiring cut and exposed
- Significant drywall damage throughout the home
- Drywall debris scattered inside multiple rooms
- A pillowcase filled with wiring matching wiring cut from the residence
The homeowner initially estimated damage at approximately $500, but after being shown the damaged wiring and drywall, revised the estimate to approximately $5,000, according to court records.
Evidence collected by investigators
Investigators documented several items they allege link the suspects to the burglary:
- A screwdriver recovered from one suspect with drywall residue on the tip
- A utility knife found inside a purse with drywall residue on the blade
- Additional replacement blades inside the same purse
- A pillowcase filled with wiring consistent with wiring cut from inside the home
Officers noted that the pillowcase containing wiring was found on top of a purse inside the residence and did not belong to the homeowner.
Statements provided to police
Court records identify Jody Jackson as one of the individuals detained at the scene. After being advised of his Miranda rights, Jackson agreed to speak with officers.
Jackson reportedly told investigators he arrived at the residence with his girlfriend to meet an acquaintance. He stated that the front door was already open and that they entered the home to look for the individual but left after not finding anyone inside.
Police also interviewed Kapri Wixon, who stated she received a phone call asking her to meet at the residence. She told officers she did not find it unusual that entry required sliding past a refrigerator positioned near the door.
Additional observations inside the home
While searching the residence, officers reported hearing music coming from a cellphone located inside a handbag underneath a pillowcase filled with clothing.
Officers stated the pillowcase matched the one used to carry the wiring cut from inside the home. When questioned, Wixon reportedly denied ownership of the pillowcase and stated she did not know how it came to be on top of her bag.
Charges filed
According to court records, Jody Jackson was charged with:
- Burglary
- Criminal damage to property (over $1,000)
- Conspiracy to commit burglary
- Possession of burglary tools
The case remains pending in Chaves County Magistrate Court. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
