CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. — Court records show burglary and battery charges filed against a Roswell man following a reported domestic disturbance in November 2025, according to a statement of probable cause.

The case was filed on November 17, 2025, in Roswell Magistrate Court under case number M-7-FP-2025-613. The matter remains pending as of publication.

The defendant, Orlando Sanchez, is charged with burglary, battery, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

All allegations described below are drawn directly from sworn law enforcement affidavits and court filings.

What Court Records Allege

According to a statement of probable cause filed by an officer with the Roswell Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:55 a.m. on November 15, 2025, to a residence on C.W. First Street in Roswell in reference to a reported domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the reporting party, who was identified in court records as the victim in the incident.

The reporting party told officers she heard knocking at her front door and believed it was her father. She reported that a female relative arrived at the door accompanied by a juvenile.

Alleged Entry Into the Residence

According to the affidavit, the reporting party stated the individuals entered her residence without consent. Court records indicate she told officers they began asking about the location of her grandmother’s ashes inside the home.

She reported telling the individuals they were not allowed inside the residence and advised them to leave multiple times.

The affidavit states the individuals told her they were “there for the ashes,” and she responded that they would need to speak with her grandfather.

Alleged Physical Altercation

Court records state the reporting party alleged Orlando Sanchez attempted to swing at her but was initially stopped by another individual.

According to the affidavit, the other individual then positioned herself between the reporting party and Sanchez.

The reporting party told officers Sanchez grabbed her hair and that she was struck multiple times by the other individual. She stated she fell to the ground while being punched and kicked.

The affidavit further alleges Sanchez then entered the residence and began punching the reporting party as well.

Observed Injuries and Evidence

According to court records, officers observed redness on the reporting party’s face when they arrived on scene. Officers noted the reporting party appeared visibly upset.

Officers documented the injuries and photographed the reporting party using department-issued body-worn camera equipment.

The reporting party told officers she wished to pursue criminal charges.

Defendant’s Statements to Police

Court records state Sanchez later admitted to officers that he went to the residence by himself and stayed for approximately five minutes before leaving.

According to the affidavit, Sanchez denied any physical altercation occurred at the residence. He told officers he went to the home only to retrieve ashes and denied assaulting the reporting party.

Sanchez also declined to provide contact information for the other individuals involved when asked by officers.

Charges Filed

Based on the investigation, witness statements, and observed injuries, the affiant concluded sufficient probable cause existed to charge Orlando Sanchez with:

  • Burglary
  • Battery
  • Contributing to the delinquency of a minor

Court records show the charges were filed in Roswell Magistrate Court.
